Caleb Williams is far and away one of the most hyped prospects the NFL has seen in a while, and seems like he HAS to be taken with the first overall pick, despite other great talent at the QB position that could also be chosen at the top of this draft class.
HOWEVER…
There is one factor that could destroy all draft stock Caleb has built for himself in his run to become the #1 draft pick, and that is, Quarterbacks named Caleb are not good in the NFL.
This is absolutely devastating to Caleb Williams draft stock. I was really pulling for the guy, but the stats don’t lie, the name Caleb is cursed for NFL quarterbacks. We have a total of 10 games in which a guy named Caleb played in a game as quarterback in the NFL, with 4 of these being starts, and these are the stat totals of said games:
0-4 record as a guy named Caleb starting at QB
679 total yards
3 Touchdowns
10 Interceptions
21 Times Sacked
*These stats may or may not be all from the same guy, Caleb Hanie. He was not good.
What also hurts Caleb’s draft stock, is the other 2 top QB prospects in Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, have zero games played of NFL QB’s that share their first name. No Jaydens, No Drakes. This means there is truly no ceiling on how good these guys can be as we have never seen any quarterback in the history of the league with these names, unlike Caleb.
To close this out, you can see Caleb’s have a legit history of being absolute dog-water as NFL QB’s, and the NFL as a whole will probably let Williams slide to a Day 3 pick once this starts hitting the media. You’re on the clock Chicago.
