Before I say any words, I would like to announce I think the orange pants looked good. Onward.
Brutal. Who Dey Nation loses a game that was the definition of an emotional roller coaster. So many points. Neither offense could be stopped. Joe Burrow has a career day (5 passing TD’s from our sweet prince) and plays damn near the perfect game he said he needed to have in order to win. Unfortunately Joe was right and the “As close as you can be to perfect without being perfect” performance resulted in a heartbreaking loss, as a bad snap for the game-winning FG attempt resulted in obviously missing said attempt. 1-4. It is a beyond depressing record for a team that at some point during EVERY game they have played this season could confidentially say they SHOULD win this game.
Week 1 – The Patriots are the worst team in the NFL. We SHOULD win this game. (We Lost.)
Week 2 – We have the lead against the Chiefs. We have them held to 4th and 16 on their own 35 with 38 seconds left. We SHOULD win this game. (We lost.)
Week 3 – We are due for a bounce back. This is an unproven rookie QB (at the time) and there is no reason why they should beat us. We SHOULD win this game. (We lost.)
Week 4 – Carolina Panthers. An obvious we SHOULD win this game. (We win and we are so back)
Week 5 – Put us back on notice. Joe Burrow is having a career day. We have a 52 yard field goal attempt with one of the best kickers in the league after a defensive stop. If we make this we stun the Ravens. We SHOULD win this game. (We lost.)
Disappointing is an understatement.
With that being said…. We SHOULD win our next four (Giants, Browns, Eagles, Raiders) so I am refusing to punt the season yet despite being at the absolute breaking point.
For the love of all that is holy we have the best offense in the NFL. Why would anyone abandon hope on that just 5 weeks into a season? (I will admit having the worst defense in the league is a good answer to this question.)
Glass-Half-Full mentality. We were one accurate field goal snap away from beating the Ravens and having everyone in the entire galaxy be back in on the Bengals.
Side Note Hypothetical Question Time: If you were a holder for an NFL team and got 100 clean snaps, how many of the 100 are you accurately placing in perfect spot for the kicker to nail the attempt? I’m genuinely curious what this answer is for an average joe, especially in a moment like this with the game on the line.
Anyway, Bengals, Can we just fire someone???? I don’t really care who it is at this point but maybe some kind of change is what this team needs to turn this season around. Even if it’s Mark from Accounting, I think that’s in play just to switch things up a bit. I really do not care who, but someone needs to pay for this. (Sorry if you’re reading this Mark, it’s really nothing personal.)
Do you guys remember that time we were in the freaking Super Bowl? God that rocked. I dream of flashbacks with Jessie Bates in a Bengals uniform literally every night. Even if the dream isn’t football related, he shows up. The classic walk into school in your underwear dream? Since when did Jessie Bates in a Bengals uniform become one of my classmates? He laughs at me. I’m embarrassed and now he’ll never come back to Cincinnati. (p.s. is Sam Hubbard good or not???)
I refuse to believe our window is completely closed. I don’t think it’s necessarily open, but it is at least closed and has bad locks. This offense can hang 45 on anyone and if we can turn our defense into maybe even a top-30 defensive unit in the league, we have a chance. We can open this window back up.
It starts now. Bad week to be a Giants fan. (At least is SHOULD be.)
