“The script writers cooked!” “Even the script writers couldn’t make this up!” “No way this was in the script!”
Lightbulb, I have an idea.
I want a new type of sports. A new brand of sports that has been right in front of our eyes for years without expanding on the potential. I want sports that actually ARE scripted.
Maximum drama, maximum excitement, maximum heartache, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in these sports leagues. For YEARS the WWE has been thriving with this concept. Everyone knows its fake, but it is still falls in the sports category I think?
The broadcast would still be 100% like it was an actual game, but fans would be more inclined to follow the social media and press conferences to see what rivalries are brewing behind the scenes.
Imagine if this was football. The NFE. National Football Entertainment.
All of the players/coaches know the script but the fans don’t. The players are told what to say at press conferences, what cryptic tweets to put out, what trash talking they should do, what games to win/throw to build up rivalries and drama that people can follow.
I would GUESS football is the easiest sport to make it look like you’re playing a real game even though the plays are scripted right? It just has to look good ENOUGH. There are times in the WWE where a superstar punches air and the opponent is knocked unconscious, but we are still drawn to it.
Imagine the storylines. Imagine the drama if the script writers are actually writing to think of what the most exciting things are that could happen in the league. I want a dramatic reality TV show but it’s 99% just me watching football.
We would get drawn to players with incredible come-up stories as heroes, and MVP’s turning heel that all the fans want to see get taken down like Patrick Mahomes x1000000.
Imagine basketball.
The scripted basketball league would be one game a week for every team and playoffs are single game elimination, making it way easier to follow and way more dramatic than the NBA. With a shortened amount of games fans will tune in every week to root for their teams and players, every game matters so much more.
The NBA Player storylines would be insane. Imagine a guy who just got called up to the NBA from the YMCA, for an injury riddled team, just to dominate and become the greatest player of all time. The possibilities are endless.
Baseball I think may be too hard to script a game so sorry about your luck baseball fans. But if anyone in the world of television/sports broadcasting would like to collab on creating a new powerhouse of a league, have your people hit my people.
